Refuge (Original 1995)
Refuge (Original) is the very first album I ever released. It contains 12 songs including one solo piano instrumental. Most of these are based on scripture passages that I set to music from the Psalms, as well as some with lyrics by Fanny Crosby. I was accompanied by my brother, Nathan, on vocals, by my good friend, Paul Wildes, on cello and my university music theory instructor, Ivar Lunde, on oboe for various tracks. I really loved what they added to the album. So, when I decided to have it remastered in 2002, to my dismay, I found that because the mastering brought up the volume so much, many background noises could be heard. So, I then had to re-record the cello and oboe with musicians in Nashville where I was living then. I also took that opportunity to re-sing a few other tracks (Kindly Words, and Mary and the Angel) and slightly rewrite one (the latter). I had planned on releasing The Rock of Ages on a new album, so, I took it off the remastered version which released in 2002. Still hoping to release The Rock of Ages again in its updated form one day soon!
